Discovered by Dr. Andrew T. Still in 1874, Osteopathy utilizes an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and the body’s interrelated functions to improve health across all systems. Using manual ‘hands-on’ techniques to make changes to the musculoskeletal systems, Osteopathy improves neurological response, circulation and corrects altered functions, without the use of drugs. Our assessment of biomechanical movement serves as a functional diagnosis, revealing how the body has adapted and compensated for injuries and strain over time. Through corrective adjustments, we create an environment conducive to the body's natural self healing and self-regulating processes, restoring proper function throughout the body’s systems. Osteopathy can help to reduce pain and inflammation, restore movement, and range of motion, improving the function of the body’s nervous, circulatory, and lymphatic systems.
Osteopathic treatment involves hands-on
manual therapy, encompassing tissue
manipulations and joint adjustments. Our
technical approaches are delicate yet
precise, always tailored to the
individual's comfort and tolerance
levels.
In our practice, we employ a range of
techniques, such as myofascial release,
joint adjustments, visceral
manipulations, and cranial sacral
therapy. Osteopaths adopt a holistic
approach, evaluating and treating the
body as a unified system rather than
isolated parts. We focus on addressing
compensation patterns, alleviating
postural strains, and restoring proper
alignment based on a thorough
examination of anatomy. Our treatments
aim to harmonize the nervous system by
reducing overstimulation, promoting
overall well-being for the entire
body.

Using both Infrared and Near Infrared
light waves to stimulate tissue health
and cellular function, this modality is
in use with most major professional
sport teams, NASA and has been proven
through peer reviewed studies. Not all
Red Light units are created equal with
many on the market just being sufficient
to address the skin layer. Our Red Light
unit is a class rated medical unit from
the United States and produces safe and
effective wavelength of light to
penetrate deep into the tissues below
the skin to rejuvenate cellular function
in connective tissues.
Massage is used to treat soft tissue of
the body using trigger points, massage
and fascial release techniques.
(Note: Not Registered Massage Therapy)
Therapeutic ultrasound utilizes sound
wave energy to stimulate tissue and
circulation to improve healing and
reduce scar tissue. Therapeutic
ultrasound aids soft-tissue injuries,
including joint pain, muscle strains and
tears, and ligament injuries. In
addition, sometimes used for some
chronic pain.
Reiki, is a Japanese technique used in
many mainstream hospital settings for
stress reduction and relaxation,
bringing the body's interconnections
into ease promoting healing and
wellbeing. Reiki treats the whole person
including body, emotions, mind and
spirit creating many beneficial effects
that include relaxation and feelings of
peace, security and wellbeing. Reiki
supports the complete wellness vision we
have at Concordia Osteopathic Health, as
stored negative emotions can present as
physical pain
Access Consciousness Bars has been
reported to help with stress reduction,
deep relaxation, ease of sleep,
dissipating mind chatter, releasing
trauma, reducing overwhelm, decreasing
negative and limiting thought patterns,
changing negative behavioral patterns,
improving overall wellbeing, and
increasing feelings of calmness, inner
peace, happiness and gratitude. Access
Bars is a holistic complementary therapy
that activates the body’s innate ability
to self-heal.
Raindrop Technique is a unique form of
bodywork which combines targeted
relaxational massage and energy
approaches with essential oils for a
deeply harmonizing, rejuvenating, and
relaxing experience.

Osteopathy can address many disfunctions in the
body. Whether you have an acute strain injury or
a long-standing issue that you haven’t been able
to get relief from we can help. Over time your
body will begin to compensate for past injury
and strain causing restrictions in the tissue,
vasculature and alter neurological signals. Our
bodies do this, striving to keep functioning
through our daily lives, but this can lead to
altered system functions such as constipation,
indigestion, or even knee pain and set us up for
greater injury and illness down the road. Using
Manual Osteopathic techniques, our practitioners
make physiological adjustments to restore the
function in these systems and help your body
maintain it’s normal healthy state. Because
Osteopathy views the entire being as one
integrated functioning system, mind, body and
spirit are interrelated and benefit from healthy
function of all systems. We all know how our
mood and outlook change when our body is not
functioning properly, Osteopathy looks to
harmonize all these balances and get you back to
feeling great.
Osteopathic Manual Practitioner (OMP)
Doug is a classically trained osteopathic manual
practitioner as a graduate of the Canadian Academy
of Osteopathy (CAO) with a Masters in Practice of
Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences (MOMSc.).
Prior to pursuing an education in Osteopathy, Doug
had a career of nearly 30 years in robotics and
automation, industrial mechanics, mechanical
engineering, and electrical systems which took him
around the world, several times. Although this
education and experience would at first seem to be a
total 180 degrees from Osteopathy, nothing could be
further from the truth. Dr. Andrew T. Still, the
father of Osteopathy, often referred to the
importance of acting and thinking like a mechanic
and engineer when regarding the systems of the body,
which Doug demonstrates naturally.
Doug’s path to Osteopathy was the result of
long-standing injuries from being a competitive
hockey player in his teenage years. Chronic hip and
shoulder injuries were a constant reminder of those
younger days and he regularly sought treatment from
other manual therapies with limited effect in effort
to keep the surgeon away. Following a referral to
see an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner, Doug’s
chronic hip pain disappeared in a few visits. This
was a revelation and Doug quickly read three books
written by Dr. Still exclaiming, “Oh I totally get
this!”. He returned to school once again to help
others become free from the type of pain he suffered
with for decades.
While attending the CAO, Doug was often called upon
and sought out by his fellow students to explain the
mechanical principles being used to adjust the body
systems. It is this deep integration of the two
sciences that makes Doug so effective in applying
Osteopathic Manipulation and in understanding of how
the body systems are inter-related. As a lifelong
learner, Doug continues to develop new knowledge
through extensive reading of classical osteopathy
texts and new anatomical reviews, always through the
discerning eye of the now human engineer and
mechanic.
Osteopathic Manual Practitioner (OMP)
Mindy completed her studies at the Canadian Academy
of Osteopathy in March, 2024. Her studies included
principle based Classical Osteopathy, with a focus
on anatomy, physiology, and collective mechanics. In
this context, the body is assessed and treated
holistically, acknowledging the connection between
structure and function.
As an Osteopathic Manual Therapist, all layers of
tissues are addressed, including the fascia,
neuromuscular, ligamentous, bony, and visceral.
Treatment is applied to the body in various ways
depending on what is needed, and treatment can be
used for acute, subacute, and chronic conditions.
Each person is unique, and their bodies have
different patterns of compensation which helps to
guide treatment. In essence, Osteopathy works to
free up the body to enable its own inherent
self-healing and self-regulating abilities.
Manual Osteopathic therapy can be valuable in
reducing pain, improving range of motion and
symmetry, addressing issues with arterial supply,
venous drainage, lymphatic flow and nerve function,
and can help to improve the overall vitality and
constitution of a patient.
